When I was in high school in the early 60s a friend worked for a funeral home part time and they ran Pontiac station wagons modified to be ambulances. All were tripower three on the tree vehicles. I hung out at the funeral home some when he was working and rode shotgun when he answered calls. I remember when the new '62 came in and he and I took it out to the edge of town and wrung it out; it went. I do not know if those wagons had heavy duty brakes or if they were 425a cars and did not know enough back then to look. This was long before the days of EMS.
