That is a interesting attempt, I suspect that they knew that the new G-body would be based off the A-body Platform, and justed added the features mentioned in the news release to a Lemans/GTO. They did miss my quite a biton that one.

I wonder when the G body planning finally got underway. The G body wouldn't have got underway at all without Chevrolets help thanks to Pete Estes. Ah Pete Estes, the guy who put his career on the line to launch the GTO without corporate approval.
If DeLorean is the father of the GTO and Wangers is the godfather of the GTO what would be the name of the guy who actually said yes or no to the GTO?
It was DeLorean who approached Pete to share the cost and tooling of the G body, even though the GM rule of one year exclusive rights to a new product ( hence the one year later launch of the Monte Carlo ). I always looked at those years when Knudsen, Estes, and DeLorean while ruling Chevrolet, that Chevrolet had a little bit of Pontiac in it.

I had a purple one with white walls. It was a 3 speed. Not a Schwinn and I do not recall the brand, but sure wish I still had it.

The photo was from Popular Mechanics. I'm not sure if it was a specified bicycle brand, or a composite of many models to show the various features of what was popular on kids' bikes at the time.
