It would be nice to have a door covered with vinyl as it would eliminate the crumbling
plastic problem, but if that was done the outer edge of the door would have to be trimmed back or it would not fit in the hole in the dash in my opinion. The fit on those glove box doors
is very tight to the opening....no room for a layer of extra vinyl on the edge.

Got the body apart again Preped the doors, fenders, deck lid and hood. Sprayed them today with the last coats of primer
Mike and I will seam seal some of the body this weekend then apply the last coats of primer to it. From there we start applying all the black paint to underside of body, fenders and hood as well as the firewall.
Still lots to do but feeling good.

Cruising along pretty good at this point. Got the eexterior of the car seam sealed (except the bottom) and last 3 coats of primer on the body last weekend.
Removed the body from frame today and put on the rotisserie. Moving on to prepping, seam sealing and painting the bottom of "Ole Betsy".

I have an NOS remote mirror on my car, but I still have my original with the correctly dated glass in it. I would love to take mine apart, chrome it and reinstall with the original glass.

Did you get it taken apart w/o breaking anything including the glass? I have looked at mine and have not taken it apart, but I would love to restore the original.

I have also looked for someone that would just take it and restore it. Do you have any pointers for doing this?

I did get it apart with out breaking any thing although it sure was built like it was not ment to come apart in my opinion. There are three small cables have lead ends like a bike brake cable. You have to pry the holder apart that they sit in. I will have to pinch them back together when reinstalling. Really the ony tricky part.

Scuffed bottom of car today. Welded up a few holes and did some bondo work to hide a few areas we worked on. Finished the day by priming the trunk area with epoxy.
Tomorrow I will seam seal the bottom.

Inside of car is painted and trunk primed. Bottom of car is primed and will get painted tomorrow using DuPont Imron in satin.

So this was kind of crazy today! I was priming the hood in preparation for the finish coats to the underside and this mummified mouse pops out!
That little sucker was in there pretty good as that hood was soda blasted, washed, blown out, sanded, welded on, mud work, more sanding, more blowing etc..... I must have blown out all the cracks and crevices for 5 minutes today alone after sanding and scuffing one last time before I wiped with wax and grease remover and tack clothed.
What finally made it pop out was I had the spray gun set so I could fuzz some paint into the holes in the supports, you know, almost a zero tip rather then a fan and not much paint coming out and out she came!
Can't believe it stayed in there after all these years of working on it.

When I bought my 69 GP last summer I noticed that there was an unpleasant smell in my garage. I was getting dust on the engine every time I popped the hood so I decided to rip out the underhood pad (that was missing a corner) and hose out the hood and engine bay.

A few days later I walked into the garage and it had a repulsive smell. I traced it to the engine bay of the GP so I drove it outside and took the hose to it again. This time I noticed that the area around the inside of the "beak" of the hood was gummed up with gunk.

I started pulling it out and realized it was the missing part of the underhood pad. The bad smell was from a family of mice who build a nest in there and died. I guess wetting it originally actived their dried out bodies. The gunk was full of mini body parts, yuck!

Took several washings with disinfectants to finally lose the smell. Luckily it never made it inside the car.

Did feel sorry for the little guys though. Previous owner had it stored in his warehouse for many years.

My Mom told me her car had a bad smell and the blower motor was making noise. SO I pulled the blower motor out and there was a mouse all waded up inside the squirrel cage[or should I say, the mouse cage]. I figure at some point, when my Mom turned on the heater, he probably kept up with it for a little while, until he got too tired, then his wittle wegs couldn't take it anymore, and gave up the ghost!

Who are you sending your bumper out to? What is your plan for the tail light bezels? I am wanting to get my bumper fixed and re-chromed. It has a medium size dent, no tearing of the metal and no rust. I'm also thinking of the composite bezels as I haven't heard anything on the repo pot metal ones, good or bad, not sure mine could be restored. Your Goat is looking good, thanks for posting your progress!!

I sent my bumper to a local shop and already have it back. Looks great but still not perfect as I had asked for. Cost me $1000 to get it done I will try to post some pictures soon.
As far as tail light bezels I have a set if the reproduction metal ones and they are excellent quality as far as I am concerned. Believe I got mine from Richard Sargent. Seems as though a lot of people have them available now, at least I believe there all the same but not sure.

Sprayed the spatter paint in the trunk today. Primed with black epoxy first then top coated with black/aqua Zolatone with hardner.
Here is what it looked like when I pulled her apart.



Here is the now finished trunk.

I am happy with the way it turned out. Not a perfect match by any means but looks great and will last.
This photo is a little deceiving as the speckels are aqua and not white as it appears.

And here Is a shot of the finished bottom side. Sprayed in DuPont Imeron as mentioned before.
