I'll be at Daytona on the 22nd to watch the race in person. Anyone care to place a bet on how much booing Danica receives?

I think you'll hear silence. She's not worth the effort to boo.
Have you been to Daytona before? That was my first Cup race back in '93. Daytona is just an awesome facility. |

My wife and I are also going to Daytona, first time at Daytona for us. We have tickets in the Oldfield tower and bought the fan experience so we can spend some time in the area of the pits. Looking forward to it, cross that one off of my bucket list.........
I won't waste my time booing her, unless she takes out her boss, or someone else I pull for.......... ......... ...... (should be 28th!!!!)

For a kid that grew up going to the 3/8 mile local dirt tracks and having only been to the MN State Fair half mile paved oval (not counting the Laguna Seca or Nurburgring road courses) - walking into the 2.5 mile high banked Daytona Speedway was almost unbelieveable. I had been on the track (track tour) at Indy in 1985 - but Indy doesn't compare to Daytona. Back in '93 they'd let you stand by the fence - but today (probably for safety reasons) they make you keep moving. Sometime during the weekend you need to be walking very slowly by the fence when cars are going by at speed (practice, qualifying, etc..) - make sure you have your hat on tight though... |

This is my fourth race at Daytona. It's not really any different than Talladega. I still prefer short tracks.

But Daytona was my first Cup experience and compared to what I had been to previously, it was sooooooooooooo impressive. Sitting up in turn 4 for the Twins and realizing the cars coming out of 2 were over a mile away was just a different experience. The fact that you can see the entire track that well was also a pleasant experience. I've really enjoyed my trips to the short tracks at Bristol, Martinsville and Richmond. I also enjoyed Darlington, Charlotte and Atlanta a lot. Going to Sonoma for a week in June and will be in turn 7. First time at a road course since the Nurburgring in 1974. Only other road course was Laguna Seca in 1973. |

I usually park on the far side of the mall across the street..... just outside the mall exit, there is a small lot on the right.... little bit of a walk, but the benefit ....... easy out, especially since I stay north of the track , in Ormand Beach.... very little traffic heading that way after the race.... MAN..... now I am twitching to go..... 2016 ..... think I will be back.....

I was going to suggest the mall too - we parked there multiple times - easier to get out too.
I went to several 500's & Pepsi 400's back in the late 90's early 2000's & we were at the end of the front stretch close to turn 1 when Bodine had his wreck in the truck race. I still get chills when I think about it. I found the daytime races were easier to watch than the night races - for the night races you couldn't tell the cars apart on the back stretch like you could at a daytime race. Good idea on the fan experience although I'm not sure I would bother with it a second time. We had all access (care of Pepsi-co) for one of the 400's & got to roam around in the pits at will - pretty cool! You'll be amazed at how steep the track is - you can read about it and watch it on TV but to walk it will amaze you! Have fun - all of you!

I've had good luck parking just north of the mall. The first time I stayed in St. Augustine and was able to take back roads north to get out of the smell and the mess.
The other times I've stayed in the Orlando area, but still parked north of the mall and then used back roads to get to 92 West to Deland. Staying off the Interstate is much faster, even if it is more miles. |

![]() Thanks for reminding me about the airport being so close. Actually, I think the next time we go to Daytona, we'll probably stay at the Hilton property by the airport. My wife was working in Daytona last year and stayed there. IIRC, the Rolex 24 Hour cars were practicing and she could hear the cars on the track. As we have Diamond status with Hilton - we can stay there for free...

BTT...
This is the car that Danica will be driving in the Sprint Unlimited: ![]() Posting this so people can recognize which car she's driving before she wrecks it... ![]() Trying to figure out why she's even in the race - based on this criteria coming from jayski.com at the top of the Sprint Unlimited page: Quote:
She has never won a Sprint Cup event. She wasn't in the Chase in 2014. She wasn't in the top 25. Oh, just found the Danica exception, buried way down the page... Quote:
