What is the best flowing SD you have heard of or seen? Do you have flow sheet? Anyone have flow sheet from a SD Super Stocker?

They go 285 with a good basic port job. I have done S/S heads but this was before they allowed any porting. Nunzi told me he could get 330 out of them, but I'm not sure if that was on my bench or his bench.

Anyone know when 1974 SD455 INTAKE changed from LS-2 to LS-2X? I have an LS-2 but would need to trade for an LS-2X manifold. I am starting collecting all the parts I need to restore the 74 SD white TA.MY March bld car is LS-2.Thanks.

I have seen examples of both the "49" cast with the "5107" stamped, and the whole number "495107" stamped.

These intakes were used on early 74's through about Jan of 1974. They all have the K172 date, as the 73's did also. These intakes are all the same casting, the 73's have the 494405 cast/stamped on them and also have the drilled and tapped hole on the RH side of the water crossover.

It appears that left over 73 castings were machined, restamped, and used on the early 74's.

All of the LS2X manifolds I have seen have the 495107 number cast, not stamped.

The photos in SDD's post are of an early 74 intake. The vacuum switch on the intake runner is also a 74 piece.

The early 74 SD cars used the left over 73 engine parts. You will find Nov-Dec 72 cast dates on the heads and block on the early 74 SD cars.

It seems that the supply of blocks ran out first as I have seen Jan 73 dated blocks on some early 74 cars. The intakes changed to the LS2X some time in Jan 74, I have seen 72 date coded heads on some late Feb 74 built cars.

I have not seen any intakes or heads cast in 74, all have 72 or 73 date codes. I have seen SD blocks cast in 74 (including SR blocks).

All 73 SD engines should have cast dates in Nov or Dec 72 on the block, heads and intake.

I have seen one 73 SD TA with a Jan 73 dated block, it was an obvious re-stamp.

If anyone has seen anything different than this, I would like to know.

This is what I show from my EUN database:

My EUN data shows K112, and one K182 (plus the A??3 but probably not correct, as toomany said a restamp?) for the 1973 SD block date code in 73 Birds.

1974 Birds shows K112 and K182 until A093 in January. Then a batch of L203 dated blocks June. An A094 in June. A C294 in late June.

I have a lot more SD block/eun's but a lot of them I don't have a date code listed.

Well got educated. I could have !!!!!!!!, My original March 74 SD DOES have an LS2X INTAKE. My racer has an LS 2 intake with the stamped part no.

My 74 is stock. Drove it to Norwalk 8 9 times.showed it sat,raced it Sun, 14.1,then drove it home.The racer is all gm parts,except HO racing stocker regrind,stock lift.12 teens,110 fastest.3700lbs.It's tired,still 12.4s .

Yea, it was a great car I drove and enjoyed that one quite a bit! Funny story I traded it twice. First time was on the 70 W30. 4sp Conv in the background but ended up buying it back and keeping for another year until this one showed up... too many cars not enough time!

Looks Great. When you say base coat do you mean that the car had a B/C on it or do you mean the original paint?

By "base coat" he means the original factory red paint. The car had a clear coat over the flames which were carefully removed.
