Default EFI and spreadbore

Has anyone heard of or seen a simple EFI set up (holley, FAST, etc) that will bolt to a stock Pontiac intake?
Seems there were millions of quadrajet powered vehicles, but no one make a unit that will mount without switching intakes, or using an adapter that makes everything to tall for any ram air set up..

There isn't anything, and the market for such a system is so small that I doubt there will ever be one.

You CAN use a Performer intake, though, and it should work quite well. I've ground off the "Edelbrock" and "Performer", "textured" the area and painted it to match the motor before - and few people realized it wasn't stock. Some people have even used JB Weld to put their own "firing order", casting codes, etc. on aftermarket intakes.

If you decided to go with FAST fuel injection, get in touch with me and I might be able to save you a few bucks.

I'm running the Edelbrock E-Street EFI throttle body on their Pontiac Performer RPM manifold, just used a spread bore to square bore adapter plate. No issues.

Thanks, Gary

The thin plate version adapter will work on performer or rpm intake. However, on a stock intake you need a 4 hole square bore to spread bore adapter. Typically an inch or bit less tall.

IF the throttle body has provision for small or large bolt pattern, a thin adapter(@1/8" like the AFB/Holley adapter for Performer or RPM that Edelbrock sells) on a stock intake, would require making clearance and some blending at the throttle bores of the intake.

I was reading about Fitech Go EFI last night, and theirs is supposed to do spread or squarebore.

FWIW the adapter(square bore to spread bore) is supposed to hurt flow but at the track when I swapped an 850 Demon for an 800 Qjet form Carb Shop it picked up .2 so it must not have hurt flow too much.

This guy did it with an MSD unit. His install came out as good as it gets...

I just ordered the FiTech Go EFI 4 (up to 600hp model) and their Fuel Command Center for my Trans Am. Will update this thread with the results. Talked to FiTech today on the phone about mounting to a spread-bore manifold, they said I could use a thin adapter plate (not a 1" spacer) and it will line right up with a factory spread bore intake. We will see in 2 weeks. I am still concerned the primaries will create turbulence.

Just an update, I confirmed with FiTech I do need the thicker spacer that is 7/8" or more to redirect the flow, just like the one used on the link to Trans Am Country above.

Now I need to decide if I should get a spacer and a drop-base for the shaker, or swap in an Edelbrock performer intake that I fear will not flow as well as the factory intake.

Angelo- have you received the kit? This seems almost too good to be true at 1/2 the cost of the others on the market...sub'd

No should be shipped in the next week.

They haven't marketed their products yet, all business from word of mouth so far. They do not have the same overhead (yet) as an already established brand.

Here is a review of the product on a 1981 corvette: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...fi-review.html

The fuel command center is about the size of a vapor canister.

I read that thread today- seems like a good system but needs more users and time for thorough assessment. My car already has an Tanks-Inc set up with in-tank fuel pump so I'm halfway there...If my q-jet gives me issues, I will seriously consider this upgrade...

I'll let you know how it goes. My concern at the moment is the fuel line clearing the air cleaner assembly. That will be the first test when the package arrives.

I called their tech department today and spoke with Ken. After I fire my engine, if all goes well I may be going this direction...

ANGELO, Please keep us up to date on how it works. I have a buddy looking at it right now for his Chebby and I wouldn't mind putting injection on my 78 ta as long as it doesn't
mess with the shaker location. It almost seems too good to be true. The video's I've seen of it are pretty impressive.

Last weekend a friend of mine installed one of these FITECH systems on a dodge truck, replacing the Thermoquad. So far he seems pretty happy with it. Posted a few pictures and few videos on his Facebook about it.
