This is correct and has been covered here before. Standard interior cars moved to a common (and probably less expensive) armrest with Camaro around Feb '71 through the end of the model year. Custom trim cars continued to use the soft '70 style armrests. There is no definitive date for the change as it appears different colors ran out of old stock earlier than others.

at first glance, this 72 seems to have The Look. very OEMish I'd say, an honest looking driver car, yes?....
