Just an update, I confirmed with FiTech I do need the thicker spacer that is 7/8" or more to redirect the flow, just like the one used on the link to Trans Am Country above.

Now I need to decide if I should get a spacer and a drop-base for the shaker, or swap in an Edelbrock performer intake that I fear will not flow as well as the factory intake.
