I'd say the 'Use SE oil' would be correct.
The SE oil designation started in 1972 Model year.
(1971 didn't have that designation)



EDIT: The SE stick is for 1972, the other is for older engine.
Thought you were asking about a 72 engine.

No difference in the '71 non AC dipsticks between d port and roundport, the differences was when the roundport '71 had factory AC, then there was a different dipstick for A body and for F body.

My WAG would be the AC dipstick is longer to curve around and under the compressor and mounts.

My Bad, I misunderstood. I got it now. I thought he meant there was a difference between the A body & F body HO AC dipsticks.

I did not know about the non-AC dipsticks being the same or interchangeable on HO & standard engines. That's good news for guys with non AC cars.

The original HO with air conditioning dipsticks are scarce, and the repro upper tube that fastens to the upper AC support bracket that I have seen, are not even close. I have my original upper AC type tube, but can't use it because the factory brazed on tab came off and damned my butt...I've lost it. I'm having to run something I found on cheat-Bay. The original upper tube has a flat side that orientates toward the block so it clears. It's a tight fit for the round port AC type dipstick. Anybody have an upper tube they can post up? I would like to duplicate the tab that came off of mine.

an original '71 A-body 455 HO AC dipstick is aprox 3/4" longer than '71 F-body 455 HO AC dipstick. I have an original '71 A-body HO version, have never owned the '71 HO F-body AC version, have only had a non AC '71 T/A project.

For '72, the upper oil indicator tube for 455 HO cars was slightly different than the '71 HO version. The '72 HO upper tube is the same as the one used on the '73 & 74 SD cars that had AC. This style, '72-74 roundport app upper tube was reproduced about 15 years ago. avail from PY...assume Ames.

The dipstick used with the AC application '72 HO and SD cars with AC is the same as used on many years of D-port AC cars.
