Well, today must be my lucky day. I have had an ongoing search on eBay now for over a year looking for bodyside molding for the Black Car, primarily for the door. Bingo, today an NOS piece surfaced and I am now the proud absentee owner. I didn't even look at the price - I just hit Buy It Now. Hopefully it will not be damaged in shipping.

This is the worst piece on the Black Car as at some point a PO shot a screw through the existing molding to lock it in place. Here is the old and new. The old picture was taken during the wet sanding and buff out process.

I now have one door piece, and one front fender piece. I am interested if anyone has a few pieces hoarded away.

Did you tell the seller to ship it inside a section of PVC pipe? I think That's how I sent that front piece to you IIRC?

Ok, so I have thought long and hard about my winter project and have decided to blow up the Black Car and rebuild it. MPD and I started draining the fluids today, and tomorrow we will start pulling the drivetrain and stripping it underhood to the subframe. We are also going to strip the interior and trunk prior to it's journey to the painter. At this time I am not planning to do a full blown rotisserie, but once the car is stripped to metal and the budget is more clear that might change.

I'm pretty excited about this and can't wait to get started. I have been accumulating NOS bodyside molding, but only have 3 of the 6 necessary pieces. Therefore, I plan to have the holes welded over and will leave the molding off until I can collect all 6. I am still undecided on the rear spoiler which was an add on, but I like the way it looks and imagine that I would have added it "back in the day" so it will probably stay.

I do need a at least one part which is the hanger bracket which mounts to front of the oil pan and holds the fuel return/vapor lines from the fuel pump. I would love to have one if anyone can oblige, but a picture of this would also be helpful since I seem to remember thinking that it wouldn't be hard to modify some other hanger to look basically stock. Right know I have a zip tie from NJSteve. I also plan to swap out the metal valance for an ABS valance, but need to know if the ABS valance also requires the center support bracket that Norwood makes.

To my utter shame, I was never able to find that exact fuel line bracket. It has to have some other application. I know I have seen it before but maybe someone else can ID from memory what is was. (I did use an NOS black cable tie to hold it up there, though - so do I get points for that?)

Bob, the car had NOS quarters and tail panel put on it in back in the 1980s but they did an ugly patchwork of repairs to the inner and outer wheeltubs as no factory pieces were available at the time. Are you going to remove the quarters and redo the inner tubs with the new repro tubs they make now? They actually used the old fashioned brazing method to install the panels, so it might not be as hard to remove the quarters as if they were mig-welded. Unfortunately whoever did the work thought that the rear valance seam to the lower quarters was supposed to be completely filled in. I used a propane torch to melt away a lot of the bulk excess brass in order to expose the original seams.

Bob, are you sure you need new outer doorsweeps? I could have sworn that when I bought the car it had the wrong ones with the bead on them and I replaced them with NOS correct ones. Or are all my projects just melding together at this point????

I still need to determine whether the Parts Place valance requires Norwoods center support bracket. I'm trying to gather up all the parts and pieces before sending the car south.
