I honestly just hoped to have a good time and show off the engine detail. This is such a cool car and I am very lucky. To think I killed the deal after Bob Vidian's first inspection report said the clutch sucked, the door wouldn't stay open, and the brake light was on. Glad I changed my mind. The best part is that we did it ourselves instead of just stroking a check. Figuring out the puzzle and learning was the best part.

The car was standing tall in Dayton. Here's a few pictures including one the day it was delivered, and two before photos.

Well, MPD sends greetings from the Hot Rod Garage. While the AC compressor was off to facilitate replacement of the rocker arms, we decided to go ahead and replace the compressor seal with a double lip Teflon seal in the hope of eliminating the dreaded A6 oil leak. We got all stocked up on the special tools, a Delco AC manual, and some R12, and Dave got it charged up today. We'll report back after some road time on the results of the upgraded seal.

The real project though is the Black Car rehabilitation which is going on in the '70 -'73 Section. See you over there....

I am interested to hear what seal you are using & how it works out. I have a car I restored about 7 years ago
that spit oil out the front seal of the A6. It really wasn't much, but those compressors are just messy by design.
I ended up drawing the system into a vacuum & capping it off. So, no A/C since that discovery. But, the engine
bay stays clean. Mine would loose just a little bit over many weeks of sitting. Start the car to move it & the oil
was flung around. Not something us car guys like to see on a clean engine bay.

I have one like that too! mines at about 21 lbs however.

Now that I think about charging upright is probably less wasteful as the line to the gauges isn't filled with liquid when its dumped after full charge. Liquid Gold!

Well, I finally scored an original air cleaner intake hose for the Gold Car. The revered Hairy Hose. It's in great shape and the price was certainly right. All the cleaning it needed was a little compressed air to blow the dust away. The plastic liner is fully intact, and the catches are in fantastic shape.

Just curious: Does anyone know what the material is that covered the outside? I also have an original for my Formula. Almost seems like a felt type material

If your Q is referring to the topic hose exterior, IIRC, that is what is referred to as the "hairy hose" OEM material...

That is what I was referring to Alvin. just wonder if anyone knows what the actual material is? it almost appears to a a thinner variation of the underhood liner applied over plastic...
