Sorta vintage .... me showing my mom the new paint I just put on the GTO, circa 1976, Tenn. I don't think I wore a pair of shoes until I joined the military

Very nice. That's what this thread is meant for IMO.
I was 17 in 1976 and my older sister had recently aquired a verdoro '68 Tempest sedan. I think that was what started my Pontiac bug but it didn't fully surface until 1980.
I would have killed to have a GTO like that in high school. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't though.

So...was the car originally gold vinyl top and body, which you applied Liberty Blue over body?

Here is the original paint job. The colors in the previous photo were actually green and gold ... very metallic, It think Lincoln Continental colors.

This is graduation day of course ... I've posted this before. Car was stock except for the mirrors and the "Corvette" wheels.

And ... yes it might have been better if I had never gotten this car ... it ended up being the reason I joined the military (promise to my father after a crash), it was the reason I left the military (six years, then awol to take care of my car), the reason I built my first house (a place to put it), and why I am here (info to restore it) ... First ticked I got with this car at 17 was Wreckless driving and 100+ pursuit. They dropped the pursuit charge as I was only going over 100mph in course of slowing down from their original siting

PS. This was the DAY I bought it. If had only known then ... I should have listened to my friend Ted at the graduation party who solomonly told me "Johnny, don't play with it, it ain't no toy."

Is that black and gold or some type of dark green? I used to have a set of wheels like that on my '63 Impala. Hardly ever see them any more. They used to come on Camaros and Novas in the mid '70s.

Dark green and gold ...actually looks pretty good ... mostly because in this picture you can't see the "graphics" I added to the front fenders and hood
