Been to Barret Jackson a few years a go in Vegas,big production.More money than brains,but cool to see.I don't judge the value of our cars by them.However,the late second gen TA's maybe getting recognized by real collectors for the last Pontiac 400's like the W72 cars.301 cars are just silly,sorry.
But I know I will never own a nice 78 Y82 W72 4spd car now..cause McLaughlin now is the horder.

While I applaud your compassion for Burt, I think it's misplaced.

Burt was doing exactly what he wanted to do every minute of that whole dog and pony show. Not sure how much he was being paid but on top of it, he got a standing ovation. I bet he went home thinking "when can I do that again" not "I'm getting too old for this".

Millions of people would gladly trade places with him and he knows it.

With the conclusion of Barrett Jackson, Russo Steele, Mecum recently and I'm sure others as well.

The conclusions are good for the hobby and marketplace. When money is being spent and interest is high. 2016 looks like a good start...

The middle of the market is strong, with prices up an average of 20%. Throw out the BJ high end TATA and BR SE sales, Pontiacs have finally realized their place in the marketplace. The upper end cars are off significantly, with only RM outpacing 2015 results. BJ has an uncanny ability to create high demand.

I disagree. If you're buying at BJ, it's a horrible investment.

The nature of an investment is to eventually sell for more than you bought.
There probably wasn't more than a very small handful out of the hundreds of cars there that would sell (outside of another BJ auction) for more than was purchased.

Seems to me we were looking at the last hurrah. There is going to be a major correction coming. It will effect everyone. You can't live with a 20 Trillion debt. forever without consequences. When it happens these cars will be worthless during the episode and after the dust settles.

I agree. It's a good time to have or to sell, not a good time to buy.

It was nice to see the Ponchos do well and come into their own at BJ, but that just means that the prices are even further out of reach for the average joe.

I thought the prices there were all over the map - there seemed to be no reason for them sometimes but I guess not being there in person limits our understanding.

An unrestored numbers matching LS6 Convertible goes for $160k but a LS6 convertible clone built off a Malibu with engine components identified as wrong during the broadcast yields $170? GT500 Convertibles go through for less than $150k and a low mile 10th TA gets WHAT?

As usual, we have learned nothing from BJ other than the show will go on, just wait and see how many clowns get out of the VW Bug!

It is much better to watch and understand a feeding frenzy from a distance than being in the middle of one.
