I put them on there in 1989, when 16" wheels were considered 'big'. No adapters, just machine work and some luck (along with converting to '71 Type II front discs and a rear '70 Type III IRS conversion from the original Type II swing-axle suspension) made them fit.

They're 16X8.5" 1984 'vette wheels with 205/55-16s stretched over them. It's lowered about 3.5" and does handle very, very well too.
