meh. I have a 440 in the Lemans - my LS3-powered T/A* will eat it alive.

If that Goat had the original drivetrain, sure - keep it the 60+ year old engine technology. But seeing the OEM mill is long gone I would go the B-man route here.

As I recall, WA and CA have some fairly draconian emission laws. In those cases, the LS3 is a perfect candidate because it's CARB certified. I like LS engines. When the 4.3 in my Silverado gives up the ghost, it will be replaced with a 5.3 based 382 ci LS. Speaking of 440s, the late PA Jim Taylor built a RAIV headed, street/strip 440 a few years ago. If I recall correctly, it produced nearly 700 hp:ALL engine, no bottle. I'm fairly certain an LS3 couldn't eat THAT...

As I understand it since Ive been in CA we are even worse than draconian. If a car is post 1975 it must maintain original smog equipment. So you cant swap in a modern LS motor easily because it wont retain said equipment. Its ridiculous.

From what I've read, installing a newer, cleaner engine into an older vehicle is permissible, as long as the emission system is upgraded as well. SEMA worked very closely with CARB in drafting the new parameters. That's WHY GM's LS3 engine kits are CARB approved.

WA - not so much.

Anything older than 25 years is not subject to testing in WA. Testing is only done in the most dense urban areas - most rural areas aren't subject to any testing.

I live right on the edge of Seattle and my old cars don't retain any emission equipment that hurts performance or gets in my way.
