I decided to block the cross over on my intake so it won't cook the paint off my intake. The car will never be run in cold weather anyway, so it won't matter if the choke doesn't function when cold outside.
I would like to just buy intake gaskets that will block the cross over rather than to do a homemade job. What do you recommend, if you've used the gaskets out there? Felpro and Mr Gasket make them. I think Edelbrock has them and some others as well. My heads and intake are all stock 1968 400 items. I just want it to work and seal well. Please let me know which gaskets worked for you (mfg and part number). Thanks OJ

I always used the Mr. Gasket 502g, with the thin plates. Never burnt out any on my bracket racers.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mr...FRCGaQodjxsOag I think some use the FP 1233's and add a thin plate, along with the solid insert, to keep from burning thru. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fe...FQ-PaQodaWwNsQ I reckin you could just cut some plates out of thin stainless, which might last longer. Don't know what the best thickness would be, but there are lots of sizes available. There's a 6x12" .012 thick sheet on the WM site. http://www.walmart.com/ip/38428305?w...981049&veh=sem And here's a .028 thick sheet. https://jet.com/product/detail/97c84...FQgGaQodYBoDrQ Apparently a lot of hobby shops carry small pieces of stainless in different thicknesses. http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/k+s/k+s87181.htm http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/k+s/k+s87183.htm http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/k+s/k+s87185.htm https://www.hobbytown.com/Shop/K-S27...t-Metal-4x10-/ "...I would like to just buy intake gaskets that will block the cross over rather than to do a homemade job..." The homemade job, with stainless plates. may last longer.

I just buy a correct felpro gasket and open the exhaust crossover port about 1\8 so there is a lip. I then trim a SS putty knif to fit. I use a little RTV red.

All these are good recommendations especially the ones about a thin piece of stainless. Have used Mr G intakes with the crossover blocked and it burned through. The stainless pieces sound like a permanent solution (although on his Chevelle, my brother used cuttings from a beer can and they held-- LOL).
However way you go, do not forget to weld or safety wire the heat riser valve in the open position (or have it removed entirely). If you have headers, disregard this. |

I used those, over 10 years with no issues.
