I'm sick of the **** service, the high bills, the big boxes that cost $6.99 a month each - who's got something better? Every time I go to watch "On Demand" my cable box re-boots! WTF???

We have Amazon prime and I was given one of the Fire TV sticks that I'm going to connect but how do you handle local & national news?

I DirecTV, but also have an antenna. At the time we built out home (2005), local channels weren't available.

We dropped cable last year. Went to an antennae, Netflix, and Hulu. About 20 bucks a month. The only sports I watch are on local channels so espn isn't necessary. Was gonna buy a good antennae but got to foolin around and made one. I get about 40 channels.(26 I actually watch). Many of them are hi-def. We have a roku in the bedroom for the netflix stuff.

Have a big antenna on the roof. Get lots of channels. Network channels are all in HD with no compression on signal. Save about $1k a year.

Same here - lots of free streams, especially news channels and sports (some legally streamed others, well...). Young adults now don't mess with cable - wonder if those Comcast execs are worried?

Like most, I am sick of the size of the cable bill (Comcast), especially for the small amount I watch TV. I've got a home phone line on their "triple play", but it would be no big deal to give up the land line and live only with Cellular service. The part I haven't figured out is what is the best way to get high speed internet access if were to drop cable. Ideas?

Eh... The major cable companies generally sell you your high speed internet too, so they're probably not too worried.

I have to say, I've always had great service with Comcast, and I work from home, so I have the TV on all day long, and I'm constantly on the Internet.

Same here been 3 or 4 years. We get ABC, CBS, NBC, sometimes,FOX, couple channels that show older movies, and a couple PBS.

Same here... Kept the Internet and dropped the cable a year ago. Have 15+ local stations, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and a Roku.... No plans to go back!

Got rid of cable (except for internet and phone) two years ago. We have Dish Network and have had few problems with them. After we move back to IN this fall, I'm going to investigate Amazon Prime, Hulu and Netflix since satellite wil NOT work at our house there (too many trees).

I found a program from www.kodi.tv . I have a spare laptop connected to my tv in the family room. I downloaded it and have been checking it out. It seems ok.

I to have Dish Network. I assume IN. is the same as MI. You probably already know this but you can get all your channels with a triple LNB [110,119,129] dish pointed southwest or a double LNB [61.5,71.7] pointed south east. If two different directions will help.

Some places have multiple options - DSL over phone lines, fiber, wireless, satellite, etc. but we don't know where you live so it's hard to give advice.

I've never had cable TV. We lived in a small town where cable was not available in the 80s, and I got used to watching only the regular local broadcasts. When I first moved to Raleigh, we were on a tight budget because we hadn't converted our first home to a rental, so we skipped cable. When I found out how much it cost, I decided against getting it.

I have Time Warner internet cable through Earthlink. Time Warner bills me, but I get Earthlink emails and server space. Paying for cable TV is not a requirement.

You can get Earthlink cable internet for $35 a month.

Thanks, John, but the problem is our house is in the middle of a woods. Dish sent a tech out a while back to investigate. He said it would take two dishes with boosters to even get a useable signal.
