This is Not the Cheapest way to go fast but for me there is a couple reasons i enjoy cars that can do what Ernies does!
1. No reason to Build a High RPM engine to go fast unless you can't go fast with a Low RPM Street setup! He is Achieving his goals with out having 7.000rpm shift points and 4.000rpm on the freeway at 60mph! 2. Its much easier on parts! Saves money so you can spend it on building an even bigger beast! 3. Its the Biggest Ego Bump ever when you tell people your combo and they are looking everywhere for the nitrous! Lol 4. Since you are not tearing stuff up all the time you get to go out and enjoy your car more! And you can even hear your radio because you aren't buzzing down the road at 4k rpm with Dual 3" exhaust! 5. You are Playing into a Pontiac Engines Strengths! Massive Power Right F'n Now! I use to run Big Block Chevys when i was young and even with a really nicely built 454 with a solid cam and "Small" Oval Ports at 255cc, RPM intake it couldn't hold a candle to any Pontiac i have ever built on the Street! Sure i can build a 496 chevy that makes great power but the pontiac just flat kills it on the street!

Pontiac 455's pull those numbers quite often, its not till you get over a 1,000hp that chevy has an advantage and thats because of aftermarket support!
541 pontiac 785hp at 6400, pump gas, Standard port SD 350 E-heads, no big deal Mild Setup Pump Gas Street 467 660hp 632tq mild hi ports, single Carb Pump gas 498cid Pontiac SD Street Engine 700hp 650tq standard entrance E-heads, single carb, not pushing anything hard. Notice how many 625-675hp 496 BBC's are running 11.50's and slower! Same power in a Pontiac runs Low 10's! PHR i think it was had some Bad Azz 496 that made a bunch of power on the Dyno went on to run so slow in the car they had 3 pages of excuses of why it didn't run 9's Pontiac's basic Design Functions Much better as a High HP Street/Strip Engine Cube for Cube From My Experience And Way to go Ernie! Wait till you guys see what he ran today! He is getting Faster!!!

I think a lot has to do with Pontiac guys don't give up.

I remember about 20 years ago being told The Pontiac V8 is dead.
It was by a well respected Mopar engine builder. I mentioned Arnie Beswick. He had norhing to say back to me. |

690 HP on the same dyno as post 274 ran consistent 9.9s in a 3700 lbs Chevelle.
BBC 502 10.5 compression Out of the box Brodix 270 (340 CFM) Edel RPM Ultradyne solid roller - 255 @ .050 intake 4.10 rear axle. I don't care what some kid on the web claims. There are MANY happy dynos pushing high numbers! (saying half of dynos may be a stretch, maybe not) |
