Now - I just have to R&R the flares and work out how I'm going to make the top ends terminate cleanly.

Pls post some pics while you do this. I suspect that the softness of this welting will make a clean end fairly easy to do.

The welting on My '74 has done the same thing as yours. To me it looks like it has shrunken with age and rolled. So I'll be following your thread as well.
