Yeah, you can burn the rubber out of the can, then use a chisel and bang the can towards the inside collapsing it some, and it will pop right out.

You can try just beating the can in some to collapse it, then bang it out, sometimes you get lucky and it will pop out without having to stink up the garage.

I use an air chisel with a flat thin concave tipped blade, and walk them right out, getting under the lip. Never had to burn or drill them. Usually takes less than 5 minutes.

Sometimes you have to apply air chisel 180* from initial buzz site.

That's how I have removed hundreds, maybe more than a 1000, suspension bushings. Everything from Ford truck twin I beam front inner pivots, to upper and lower control arms, and even from complete rear axles when carried in to the machine shop.
Control arms we put in the bake, steel shot peen and shake oven. Ready for parts, primer and paint when they came out of shaker.

Got them out, didn't think it would work ,(watched a viedo on u tube with a guy with an electric drill and a 5/16 bit walk it round the edge where the rubber insert meets the metal sleve going a little deeper each pass and the rubber walked right out of the sleve.) got one installed, had to quit for the day .
Might finish up tomorrow.

car drove extremely well until one night the old lady pissed me off and I hammered it in a parking lot full of pot holes and a speed bump, something bent or happened. got under car on jack stands, could not*find anything bent, I had replaced all other control arm bushings in the past , so I figured the ones in the rear end were the problem, they were worn but car still is nervous, darts around. I had the front end aligned, he change some caster on the pas front ( that is where I hit the pot hole hammered). car drove a little better but now steering wheel is off center. he used the 4 wheel alignment system with adapters on all 4 wheels, I think something is wrong in the rear to make steering off center, it was dead center on rack with alignment man. where do I look? have I damaged something in the rear control arm system?
and yes this thing has a lot of TORQUE, bet something is bent and I just cant see it.
should* I box the rear arms?
thanks

I have a Melling cam that is the same grind as the Summit 2801 and a stock GM HEI distributor. I think I am running 12 degrees of initial timing and get no spark knock with this 400. Your compression may be more than mine.

You should start a posting string for this chassis issue I would say!

I am at 12 now with no rattle, waiting on suspension fixed before I go back to the dist.
ill try to sneak back up to 16 , where it was if no rattle?
and yes no more suspension on this string!
guess I was using it as a excuse for not having my dist tuned !

It's always worth the effort to get things right even if it's just for the knowledge gained.

If the alignment guy had it on a 4 wheel set-up and knew what he was doing, he would have been able to see any bent parts on the screen, and you'd have it in your printout. A tweaked rear control arm will cause the rear axle to shift, and that will cause 'thrust angle', which will make the car pull, even if the front end is lined up. Also, doing his caster cut and measuring SAI, he would be able to spot a bent steering arm, etc. If the car does not pull but the steering wheel is cocked, you need the tie rods adjusted to correct toe. I've been aligning cars for over 30 years, and a 4-wheel aligner will literally tell you everything about what's going on with the car's steering and suspension. You just need to know what to look for and how to use the equipment.

A monkey could run a modern alignment machine. But it takes an experienced and trained technician to identify or repair a problem.

Sincere apology to your teck. Name calling is not acceptable.

It has been written that it takes the same amount of time to become a good technician as a good doctor.
