It was an aluminum spaceframe construction adhesively bonded together.

It was the first frame within General Motors to pass the durability test on the first try (it broke the shaker).

Why skip the 80 to 90 age group (actually 80-89)?

Happy Birthday to Jim Hand!!!

84 years young.

BTW, the groups should have been like 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, etc.

That's cool; what might have been- aarrrgg!!

In the Fiero community, the big deal is engine swaps. Supercharged 3800's (L67) are very popular and make for a pretty quick little car. I myself was toying with a Buick 3.8 GN set up. To my knowledge, no one has tried a longitudinal Pontiac V8 swap yet!

Im fairly certain I saw a 455 in one years ago. But it didnt fit all that well, I think he ran it without the hatch.

I actually almost did that SC 3800 swap. I even went so far as to secure an engine that was a target of opportunity. Problem I ran into was when I tried to buy a Fiero. The only ones I liked were the GT models in the last couple years or production. And people are pretty proud of those price wise.

From what I read it was a pretty easy swap.

HPP had a geeat article on one.

I personally prefer the Quad4HO swap - but I am admittedly bias.
Putting a Quad4 in a Fiero in either LO or HO trim would be lighter than either original engine, and have more hp to boot!

I had actually read that the Quad4 was slated to replace the Iron duke for 1990 Fieros... that would have been a game changer (at least until the automotive press whould have given the Quad4 a bad rap for the OE head gasket issues)...

The Quad 4 is good if you can keep the head gaskets from blowing and the timing chain on the sprockets. JMO.
The problematic water pump was normally the culprit for both.

The head gasket issue is fixed with a modern felpro style gasket - not an OE (victor reinz) gasket...
i haven't had any issues with a water pump...
timing chain problems are typically because the chain was worn out, not set properly, or the tensioner crapped out...

Someone showed up with a modded quad in a 4 cylinder fwd stock car and ran lap times comparable to a 2300# 400HP V8 powered tube chassis car, I was impressed as were most that had a watch on it. That thing sounded like a chainsaw! This is the grass roots of circle track racing youth ingenuity.

One of the Pontiac guys over on Yellow Bullet has a Fiero with a big block chevy in it. Haven't seen pics but I have heard it's pretty fast.
