Interesting auction in the fact that you have to bid on a project car that you will be forced to have restored by the listing person.

How do you make an intelligent bid without knowing the actual quality of this person's work?

exactly! for that reason alone, that auction is doomed (in value to the seller). how could you possibly predict the final outcome, quality of that EXACT restoration (not something they've done in the past), and how much you might price that at?? it's really an insane proposition by the seller. he should sell as is - period.

Not necessarily.

He very may well have the resources to do it, but knows that the cost will be more than the resale value of the car after completion.

He wants to make money, not own a very desirable car.
