I actually know Ronnie Gay who is a state Trooper in the area i grew up in. He did stop me one day in my SE T/A and gave me a warning. Later that week I saw him at McDonalds and we talked abut the movie. The chevy engine that was put in the T/A that made the jump was out of Hal Needam Nascar team race car, so it wasn't a stock engine.
Also the T/As used in the movie were 1976 Trans Am, so they were 400 with a 2.56 gear, not the best combo for a bridge jump. If you notice, that is a 8 grand tach, it's from the movie when Sally says he was going 110.

I went to HS with the girl in these photos, she also the same person with the picture of Fred. When Burt was in town at a film fest here in Macon, I had him sign my Georgia plate for my Y-81 T/A.

I went with the 8k tach in my '77, along with the perforated '76 seats and door panels.

Ronnie is supposed to be present during the Bandit Run/Snowman Run festivities in Jonesboro in June.

Cool info - for the bridge jump I read they need the lightest motor and a NASCAR 355 did the job - Otherwise it would be to nose heavy even if got 500 hp out of a 400 or 455 which Leader - Nunzi - Royal Automotive - etc. could easily do at the time - like this 10 sec. RA IV 455 Firebird out of Royal Automotive 1970 - 71 .
