FYI,if your going to keep the car long I would change over to the 63-64 linkage.WAY better linkage.I put it in my 62 when I made the change over from the auto.Only rub is the stud for the Z bar threads into the bell.Might talked to Fabcraft ,I think the 61-62 bell can be tapped for it.Tom

I realize that the 63 linkage works far better. I guess that would be the last resort. I've had the car 19 years and do not plan to get rid of it, so yes I plan to keep in a long time. Probably not another 19 years, since I probably won't live that long.

I really am trying to keep everything on this car year correct. My solution, in the past has been to add a helper spring, but that is just a band-aid solution. I bought my first 62 4-speed GP in 1964, and never recall having a problem like this. What was different back then? I've heard from several people now, that have the same problem, with no solution.

I would really like to figure this out, so it will work like it was designed to.

I talked to Brad at Fabcraft, and he is very aware of the problem. He had no solution and would also like to know if anyone has solved this.
