Do you buy motor oil?

It used to bother me, then I heard someone say motor with a strong New England accent. Sometime I call them motors in the same way - I get a little chuckle.

No, this is like a Man Woman thing or like one of those racial slurs that can only be made by one race, but not another race.

So there can be a engine that's called a motor, but you can never call a electric motor a electric engine. The only engine that you can't call a motor is a steam engine. Apparently a steam external combustion is free of prejudice, however a rocket engine is in the dog house with the guy who has a motor of a wife.

Another that used to crack me up back in the old "auto trader" days.......don't see it as much anymore. The phrase "won't last long". Yea........I can tell by the picture..........that car won't be around for much longer!

WOW!!!, finally someone who agrees with me!!! The word "motor" irritates me in reference to an engine.

I've heard the argument it is General MOTORS too. But that don't make it right! LOL It does have a starter motor, blower motor, wiper motor, etc though.

Default Engine vs. Motor

I was once corrected by an old technician about using the word "motor" when speaking about an engine.
He told me the difference is that a motor is an electrical device that generates electrical energy and converts it into mechanical energy....(he went back to smoking his pipe and never defined "engine"......)

A POS listed for say $6000 and the person says worth $20k when restored. My thought is, go ahead and restore it then and make the big bucks
