Default Engine color 1966 GTO

I recently had my 66 389 rebuilt. The engine was painted 65 blue with the builder citing that early 66 production car engines were painted same color as 65. I cant find any documentation to support this and am about to pull the engine and repaint it. Anybody have any insight to this.

Sounds like the engine builder got caught in a mistake and is trying to cover his tracks with a little white lie. Been around these cars since the 60's and never, ever seen a 66 with the 65-and earlier paint on the engine.

Thanks guys. This is the third 66 i have owned and never seen or heard of it either. Part of me was hoping the guy actually new something that most people don't and that i would not have to pull the motor back out.
