what affect does it have to use an aftermarket air cleaner and have no tube, just a plugged valve cover?

If you plug the valve cover you will have no crankcase ventilation on hard acceleration.

A breather on the other side, instead of a fill cap, should do the trick right? The PCV to carb is intact also.
