The 1970 Subframe, aside from some welding differences with the 71's etc, are different on the bottom. Have checked this on Norwood and CA cars and verified it to be correct. I assume there are Plenty of restored 1970 Birds with the "wrong" year Subframe. Its a ton of work to replace one on a done car, and most will say, who cares?. Its JUST Information...
FWIW .. Repaired cars could have a newer subframe from a dealer even. Note the "frame shop welders or equipment actually Sucked IMHO. |

I have a 6 24 70 dated frame that is like the one you have labeled "71-74". It came from a '70 Esprit. So perhaps it was a late in the model year change....

The Latest I have verified was a 05D , like the one above.. I assume things changed for the new model year, but not sure when. |

I'm actually (slowly) stripping my subframe and hope to have it blasted saturday morning;
IIRC there was a thread either earlier this year, or late last year which said that a partial vin was stamped on it - I was going to use that to verify if this is my original subframe (now I just need to find that thread!)... Yay for a '70 subframe ID!!
