Lloyd, don't you keep a registry on these? if so how many of them have you documented now? seems like they had a pretty good survival rate.

Lloyd, Johnta1, and myself , plus all other contributors - have all of our data combined within this thread.

pjferri's car will make 26 total documented cars - out of 290 built.

The X in the VIN's probably has helped a lot of these cars survive in some form or another even when basket cases or rust buckets.
Just by the 455HO designation in the VIN keeping them above ground.

Hopefully more will be discovered or revealed.
10% would be a good account for a bunch of guys just shooting in the dark on a website.

Haven't seen Lloyd post in a while, and read he was having some critical health issues - due for surgery.
But just in case he checks in with us --

Doing some googling and tracking -
So far have found out that the Tim Fleming - Monarch Yellow 4 Speed
was actually originally Special Ordered BLACK
and has 2 Buildsheets with it.

BLACK with Saddle Interior - 4 Speed
i think the value/interest of the car is downplayed a LOT by the Yellow paint.

Very Very Few special order Black Cars in 1972, at all.
Its practically the cream of the WW5 crop , fellows.
90k in the car with a full frame-off resto
All matching # drivetrain as well.

When my step father purchased the car in 1974 it had been painted yellow. I tracked the car down through several owners and bought it back, had it beautifully restored to stock condition and decided to go with the yellow he had known (monarch yellow). I struggled with the decision to not go with the ordered, black color, but the restoration was with him in mind.

Also on the trail of another Sundance Orange 4 Speed with Matching # Drivetrain
that was in mid-frame-off-resto in Sep 2012 with a good stash of NOS parts for the resto. Owner was in NY

Taking it for granted it was a Real McCoy by the money.
But we really need a document to keep the registry listing honest.
It claims documentation , but doesn't picture it.

Black was not a standard color for 72 GTO

I don't remember if WW5 production (290) is broken down into 4spd and Auto.
On our running list of known cars - its close to half and half - iirc

The Carolina Blue SOP 72 GTO only had reference to front bumper being Adriatic Blue. No mention on Fender Vents and Mirrors (D35 Body Color Sport Mirrors) - so probably default on Adriatic Blue with those too.
It (carolina blue) was a Lakewood / Atlanta built car.

Here are a couple pics. My name is Mark but no big deal. It needs body and floorboard work. There is a patched hole in the floorboard, so I do believe it is a 4 speed car. First thing I need to find is a hood latch and bracket, it's missing from the car. This is the car I always wanted, I think the 72 looks the best out of all GTOs. I also own a 69 GTO convertible that only needs a new paint job.
