It performs better, the original had Valley in the center of the plenum that gas would puddle in and on launch the gas would flood out the back cyc.We welded a dam there to keep it from doing it.The repop has a flat floor that fixed the issue. The fit was from maybe not great machine work. The 3 I owned were used and maybe the issues were addressed by the original owner.

Dimitri Toth tells me the factory made slightly more that forty in either two or three (I don't remember?) pourings. He said some (or all I don't remember that either?) of the SD Lemans/Tempest came with 859 setups on the engine and the bathtub in the trunk. I have both a factory and a repop and will try to remember to post pictures of them here. The repop is better IMO because the runners are thicker and can be ported more and because they do not have the two barrel idling carb circuitry in them, which is unnecessary and only catches condensed fuel laden air into pools of asphalt like gunk if those circuits aren't relieved, and as Tom said also don't have the plenum problem as bad as the real one. Whew what a sentence! But the lettering and casting #s are much more distinct on the real ones.

Tom I'm only relaying what Dimitri told me I personally have no idea. As you may know Dimitri grew up across the street from the Pontiac assembly plant and his dad worked in the pattern shop where the molds for the bathtub intakes, and lots of other SD stuff, were made.

Local shop has a full-up 1973 Daytona/Talledega 426 Hemi with 4-speed on the floor.
It has a HEMI low-profile Bathtub intake for a single square bore 4 BBL carb. I will try to get a photo up. |

Took photos of the 426 Hemi, and studied the E-headed Pontiac on the engine stand. Will upload when i can get them out of my dumbphone.
Turns out the fella that ground my two cranks had some history to share: in brief; When Smokey Yunick got out of Pontiac racing, Yunicks parts stash was sold to an Alabama fella who died, then to "Red Sharp" in AL or something, then to him. 980 heads, 4"stroke 3" main cranks, the fancy intakes, a Bubbletop car, and such. Jim Butler hung with these guys but went north to continue Pontiac stuff, while these guys went HEMI, and still run such. Well this fella is rebuilding a 1961 and needs a decent 61 DASHPAD (any color as he will paint it burgundy). Help a fella out. I think he needs a restored 61 Steeringwheel if a spate could be had. He could also be tempetd to by a 63 Tempest 4-CYL car if it is rust-free and Street, not Racer. |

I was just looking on page 180 of Pete McCarthy 's book. He shows a lower profile bathtub manifold. Something like that would be great for the street crowd to run larger air cleaners under the stock hood.

Just Dashes for the dash cover in the proper color. Located in Van Nuys, Ca. not cheap but nice. Quality Restorations for the steering wheel just send him the old one. Stupid money but nice fully guaranteed work. Also located in Calif.

Mark,
Is this the same intake manifold? If so there is a picture with the top off. https://www.forbbodiesonly.com/mopar...anifold.76662/ Stan

![]() Tom, I'm glad I got to meet Jess Tyree at the 2010 GTO Nat's at Wichita. He seemed to be doing well. His wife had just passed away. I believe he was originally from Oklahoma??? There was a Q&A panel that Jess, Art Peterson, Arnie, Tim Dye and a couple of others were on, it was awesome, were are losing them.... Jess was at the event with some crew members, a couple of tough looking characters....His story of John Delorean approaching him at a race to see if he's be interested in driving a Pontiac was awesome!!! There was no racing at the 2010 GTO Nat's, way too much rain. A bunch of race cars were in the arena, waiting for rain to pass. THey trailered up and went to track to hopefully race (I did not go to track). Jess fired up his bad ass Pontiac in the in door arena to get to trailer. My good buddy was standing about 5 feet from it, scared the dog poop out of him!!!!, He, also passed last August...

What does a cross-ram have in common with a bathtub?
