Yes, if the choke rod has Bend in it to absorb lenght then bend it out some to get the choke fully closed when you have stabbed the gas pedal once, as that's why the bend is there.
Then you will likely have a far more happy to Fire over motor when it's cold! This will work fine as long as the choke will still open all the way when hot and not drift back to a somewhat closed position.
