In around ‘05 a guy I work with told me about a ‘70 Chevelle SS 4-speed for sale. Mint original interior, no bondo solid metal, all documentation came with car. He used to own the car himself and sold it to another local guy. Turns out the guy took a job out of state and still had it stored locally. He asked my friend to sell it for him word of mouth only. A couple months go by and I finally go and drive it. Great car! I wasn’t really looking for a Chevelle, but this one was so solid, clean, and original I couldn’t pass it up. My friend says someone offered $8500 the day before and the owner was kicking the idea around about that offer! He said if I offered a little more the seller would jump on it. I called the seller and offered $9000. He said to give him a few minutes and he’d think about it and call me back. Well a few hours go by and no call. I call him back a couple times that day, and no answer. The next day at work I asked the guy I work with what’s up with the Chevelle. The owner never called back. He said the guy that had offered $8500 showed up at the door with $9000 last night! I got played! I would have gave $12,000 to 13,000 for that car if he would have counter offered! That’s all the cash I had then. I figured it was worth about $16,000 at the time.
