Hope all you guys dealing with the cold and snow make it through safe, a touch chilly here today with highs in the mid 60's. Mid to upper 70's for the weekend and nothing but sunshine in the forecast.

I got up to see more freezing rain this morning. Thank God I didn't clean off my driveway yesterday. My neighbor's son did his next door to us and it turned into a skating rink. I warned him not to but he didn't listen.
So his sister stayed overnight with their dad last night. She woke me up scraping off her van's windows this morning. I looked out the bedroom window just in time to see her slip and fall on her butt. She was ok but took itty bitty baby steps back to the door. Only about an inch of snow here from yesterday, but now it's covered with ice. It's still slippery, but right now the freezing rain has turned back to snow.

Still lots of ice, but we now have bright sunshine. So, we'll probably have some thawing today, especially on building roofs.
This thawing will produce lots of long icicles. This 1st pic is of some on the East side of my shop. Some over a foot long. And they are casting shadows. The bright sun shining on the ice in the trees makes it sparkle, like there are millions of rhinestones in the trees. Supposed to get back into the teens Sat morning. Then we'll finally have a warming trend.

This afternoon, the clouds came back, & the temp dropped back below freezing. The local weatherman said that earlier 33° temp, was the 1st temp above freezing here, since Sat, which is a record period of time - 141 hours.
https://www.myarklamiss.com/weather/...hw5nBlmdXLjF_c The sunshine had begun to melt some of the ice. But, now the melting has stopped. That has made lots of icicles. The last pic shows one that TJ just brought up from the horse barn. It measured 17". The ice in the pine trees had also begun to melt. So, there are quite a few icicles now hanging from the pine needles. Went down our road & removed the tree that was across it. I noticed that some of the small trees & saplings were so top-heavy with ice that they have bent over, some almost 180°. Last edited by ponyakr; 02-19-2021 at 08:47 PM. |

Temps are now in the 20's & we have what the weatherman called "Freezing Fog". So, I suppose that means that everything the fog's water droplets touch, that is below freezing temp, those droplets will instantly turn to ice.
https://www.weather.gov/safety/fog-freezing But, the good news is, our temps are suppose to get well up into the 40's today. So, if we get lots of sunshine, we should see quite a bit of ice melting, by late afternoon. Even warmer Sun. So, most of the ice should be gone by Sun nite. ![]() That SHOULD be the last of the major ice we see this winter. Very rare to experience snow/ice here, in Mar. All area drag strips use to be in full swing by the 1st weekend in Mar. Several would usually start in late Feb, or at least have daytime T&T sessions.
