Did I mention we still have ice covered trees & icicles, from yesterday's freezing rain ?
Yes, I know this is a common occurrence, in lots of places North of us. But, it's not common here. |

Those are short ones. I used to see them hanging from the eves to the ground up in Northern NY every so often. Sometimes 10 to 12 feet long.... depending if they were on the front or backside of the house. And with the temps below zero up there, they hang around until it warmed up.
Dataway, that reminds me of the Ice Storm of '98. Which was nasty as all hell.

We still have damage visible out in the woods from that storm. Messed up a ton of young trees, and old trees. It looks like that picture up here a few times every winter, kind of a strange climate on this mountain, We are on the downwind side of the top, bit less wind, but it dumps more moisture.

Lookin good here, now. Lots of sun. Our thermometers are showing temps well into the 50's.
Lots of snow/ice melting, except where it's shaded from the sun. Our dog was taking a siesta in the warm sunshine, up against our house, on the East side. When he heard me out front, he came around to see what was happnin. Since he'd just woke up, he had to stretch. First the front end, then the rear end, then he had a big yawn. Still lots of ice on our Parish & private road. Our mailbox is right at the South end of the Parish gravel road. This is the only time TJ & I can remember that we didn't get a single mail delivery for an entire week. I suppose the rural mail carriers have a choice as to whether they will deliver on the icy roads. OR, the local P.O. may have been closed all week. Don't know, since we haven't been to town this week. |
