But yes, I too recall reading of '69 cars being registered as 1970 - I think that had something to do with the car's build date.

Due to tooling problems Pontiac was burdened with selling carryover1969 Firebirds into February 1970. These cars built as 1969 models, but titled as 1970's.

Sorry Matt for the thread being off topic. But they sold 69 Firebirds and Camaros till they were all sold. There was no date. I would welcome any real documentation of any 69 vin being titled as a 70.

Titled "In" 1970., not as a 1970.
Show me a 1969 Firebird, Title with a 1969 VIN,
But legally proclaimed its a 1970 for model year.
While crazy stuff happened in Canada, this did not happen in the USA.
Imagine a guy trading in his 69 and telling them its a 1970..
GMAC and DOT would have no part of this.
GM did finish unfinished 69 cars through January in the unfinished car lot.
