I am waiting to see how you slip the top mechanism into the body tub.

Mine was a bugger to get in - the trim stick hung up ferociously.

I hadn't heard of that issue. I was envisioning it would go in as easy as it came out. For sure though I'll protect the new paint all around that area before giving it a try.

Please post multiple shots when you do - I probably did this task wrong.

My wife helped me put the top frame in today. It went right in just as I first thought it would.
We laid it on the floor on the side of the car and she held one end of the top while standing inside the frame. Then she stepped up into the car while I was holding the other side from outside the frame.
I had the lowest bolt stuck into the body on both sides and since the bottom of the top side brackets were slotted, it allowed the top to go right into place.

There wasn't much to it so there wasn't anything I could take multiple photos of like you asked me to do.





Update:
Not much else done since I finished the wheels. I do have the grilles ready for painting. I did a bit of sanding to remove the small places that were left after using the oven cleaner. I then put them in my blasting cabinet and blasted lightly to get them clean. There were a few very small cracks in the plastic and I ground them out a little and used JB Weld to fill followed by sanding flat the next day.



I blasted the front park/signal light housing and stripped the paint housing mounting frames. Lightly blasted those too and repaired a couple cracks as well.
I believe these are made of some kind of fiberglass. Painted them using rattle can chrome for the insides and cast coat for the outsides.
Also blasted and painted the retainers. The frames will get painted red later.

Your car is looking great won’t be long and you’ll be tearing it up. I wanted to let you know I went with the non AC front coil springs from Ames and standard rear coils. I purchased the complete polyurethane graphite steering package from PST along with same for rear control arms except I’m installing rubber on the upper control arms at the rear differential. I’ll let you know how it all works out once it’s back on the road.
