Parking brake release lever. What did cars with A/C use
With the original transaxle on my ‘63 LeMans, I like to use the parking brake when I have the car parked. The original lever has been bent (I assume) and welded on in a different position than stock. This put it right next to the parking brake pedal, and I have since mashed the hell out of the release lever while applying the pedal!
OK, I just bought a whole new pedal assembly, but still need to figure out how to modify or replace the release rod so it clears the A/C duct under the dash. Did the A/C cars have a different release rod? I have searched this site high and low, as well as the internet, and have found no “A/C car release lever”. What gives? The replacement pedal assembly, if mounted, would put the release lever right below the bottom of the dash, about 4” too high. See pics.

Update, I did find a thread from way back when, that shows two different release lever styles. I can see why this one broke off and was welded,as it doesnt look too stable when new. Now to either find a working condition A/C car pedal assembly, or try to reweld or bend this one so its usable again.

Yes, there are 2 designs, one with A/C and without. Most A/C brake levers break off, I've find them under the seats before (if fact mine is there now) but you can weld them back on to clear under the duct. Mine was broke when it arrived from transport to my new home. I really never use it but need to remove the brake mechanism and weld it back on.
