I figured it would be easy to trade a relatively new Torker for a Performer RPM but not so much

Run the Torker then. On a 455 it's like splitting hairs anyway with a stick shift. I ran a Holley Street Dominator for years and it was fine. I only went to a dual plane when I started knocking on 70's (age) door. The dual plane just made my throttle response down low cleaner around town with an automatic. The single plane had a really nice midrange rush.
