Sounds like a typical response for a 25 year old. Most of us would have felt the same way at that age, myself included. I bet in 20 years he'll understand why toning things down is the better choice for the application.

Tell the nephew you'll build back the same way if he agrees to split the maintenance costs with you. That might inspre some critical thinking lol! When I was a 25 y/o we chose our cams by going down the description list until it said "rough idle" so I get the youthful exuberance and all.

As I said earlier, a car made to be driven has to make compromises to maximum power output. The only one you're going to beat is yourself when it breaks. You want the reliability to set it and forget it, change oil and filters and enjoy it, not sit in a car worrying about every little tick you hear in valvetrain being the last sound you'll hear.

Any cam over 230 degrees .050 duration is going to turn heads and sound badass through 3" exhaust. My Crane HMV 234/242 installed at 108 sounds pretty radical through a 2-1/2" exhaust. Everyone who hears it thinks it's more radical than it really is. Here is a short vid. The idle gets loopier when in gear, of course. Any RA IV style cam is going to sound like that.

Early on, you mentioned you bought a Refurb MSD Streetfire box but mentioned later that your Summit Box had no rev limiter. Why'd you ditch the Streetfire that had a rev limiter built-in? The refurb Streetfire box w. rev limiter is $110 w free ship from MSD when they have them. I bought one just to have a backup to my 30 year old MSD 6 box and installed 6 pin Duetsch connectors so I can "hot swap" if needed. It's cheap peace of mind.

I ditched it cause I’m a dumbass and allocated funds to other areas of the build.
