Funny how the option sheet does not say boo about what transmission it has - I gather that if nothing is mentioned it defaults to manual 3 speed?

That's correct! I wish they had checked off the M-22 4-speed trans instead of the air conditioning, but it was ordered in Del Rio, TX, so pretty hot in the summers. I'm not sure if they understood they would get the M-13 3-speed if they didn't select a transmission option??? Anyway, back to the OP's thread.

The original owner may have been very wise depending on what 1st gear the 3 speed had and rear gears in back. Some of the 3 speeds had tall gearing, 3:1; coupled with say 3.08's and the torquey 455HO would make a very nice cruiser - an attribute here in the Southwest. At least it was not a column shift manual!

Seller told me he's had door since 1986 but didn't use because his friend had a better one for a good price. Said it's been stored inside since then. Rust-wise it seems to have held up pretty well... He sent two pictures before primer...Not the best but better than nothing...

Good points! He did send before primer shots... They help but only way to see inside is to do it "in person". Accoring to him previous repairs done in 80's.

My car has the original engine in it. It has 187,000 miles on it and I have no idea what condition it is in. It does turn over by hand. Probably rebuildable and also probably needs bored and new pistons, etc. I will need to invest considerable $$ into it.

I have an opportunity to buy another 1971 350 engine which is in good shape. Obviously not a matching number block and the heads are not the stock #94s.

QUESTION: If I use this other engine how much would it hurt the value of an otherwise numbers matching GT-37?

Since I am waiting for a few front brake parts before I install the shoes and drums, I moved to the back and removed the gas tank..Tank actually had about a gallon of old gas left in it after 30 yrs!. Underside of trunk looks good.

Looks like tank has 3 vents and just a gas line but no return line for gas. Is this correct?
