If in doubt, try Dow-Corning Compound #4. We used it on oil filters and assembling the shock struts in aircraft landing gears since it is designed to cause the seal/ o-ring to swell slightly. I’ve never had an oil filter leak since I started using it.

Im being nuts at times always pull the seal off carefully. Inspect it and like was said oil it with my fingers. My 80psi pump stock SD ,max rpm 6k never has leaked. My 60psi SD455 has seen 6400 in the water with no leaks.Using NAPA gold filters because of availability. Used GM,Fram HP for years when I could get them.my 2cts.

I’ve never paid much attention to them because it’s never been an issue until now.

I was at the parts store earlier comparing filters. I noticed the Wix gasket is easily removable and compressed in place when installed. Most other brands glue the gasket to the filter. I wonder if that’s contributing to the leak - especially if I don’t have the seal lubed up enough and it’s bunching.

Who know how many oil changes I’ve done over the years. You’d think I’d have this process nailed by now LOL.

That said, I am really happy with the oil pressure in this engine. I have a 60lb Butler pump shimmed and it’s definitely working as advertised. I just need to keep the oil contained.
