I think you dodged a bullet. If the deposit cost you $1k it’s was an expensive but worthwhile lesson. Console on a column shifted car? A LOT of strange things going on here, thanks for bringing it to everyone’s attention.

I agree with above, sometimes spending or loosing money to not buy something is the best outcome.

I have both paid for inspections and walked away from deposits on boats, cars and trucks that I did not buy. Largest deposit I walked away from was $3000.
