Years ago a guy named Bob was doing the same on Olds and Pontiac forums. I think he was in the mid-west. Is it him?

There has been a rash of attempted Parts for sale ripoffs on a C2 owners site I’m on. Most likely happening on most car forums.

It would help if you provided his name, so others will know who to avoid.

This kinda crap is rampant on Fakebook and IG.
I joined a Centerline group on Fakebook so I could find a wheel to match a NOS one I recently purchased. Two people answered my ad, both were scammers. One sent me pictures of 4 wheels he was selling for about half what they normally go for shipping included. I did a Google image search and sure enough the pictures were stolen from another for sale ad placed online. Wanted me to pay using Zelle, a method where once you’ve paid you can never get your money back if something goes sideways. Two words: Be smart.

Most of these scammers are easy to spot with a little research. They somehow always have the part you need, even super rare or obscure parts. They almost always say stuff like "Kindly inbox me" or "Please DM me". They have random parts they show on their generic pages obviously pulled from an LKQ or other online source. Their pages are named something generic like "Jeff Auto Parts" or something similar. And if you look at their followed pages or friends lists, they're all overseas usually African fashion pages and the like. They're all overseas scammers, and unless it's someone that i can verify that they're a real person, I refuse to do business with them.

I simply ask them to write the date on the part with a magic marker. That usually ends it. Despite their best efforts at the American language, they often fall on their face when replying or in the description of the parts.

I'd also be confused by requesting something written in the American language.

You can also request picture of part a certain way to verify they have it.
These scammers make everyone doubt that anything is real. Be careful out there. Take time to give feedback and check feedback. Have someone nearby check them out and secure parts when you can. Report scammers.

I believe that MOST of the seller pages that pop up on instagram specifically are not to be trusted. If you deal with them, make stupid requests to verify they actually have the parts. Things like a shot of a loaf of bread next to an engine block. Something that is not easily searchable on the internet.
I've had several of these pages actually skim my instagram page and use my images to try and sell the part...that they clearly don't have.
