You've reminded me of one from last week.

I ran into the TSC store to buy chicken feed. I chose the shortest line, which (as is my custom) ended up being my first mistake.

I got in line behind a guy and his wife, and two small children, apparently who are named "Cain" and "Abel" (Abel is a girl). She starts having a temper tantrum and runs off so the mom goes off to fetch her.

Meanwhile the dad places his one or two items on the counter but unbeknownst to me is buying a bunch of stuff from the back yard: fencing, and gates, and bags of lime, etc. This requires the cashier to leave his post to go ask how much some of this costs, return to ring it up, repeat. Call for assistance; have that guy depart and report back, etc.

Keep in mind I'm standing there, holding my ONE item which happens to weigh 50 lbs, watching the folks in the other line burn through their purchases ("ok - there's the lady that was in front of me. Ok - that would have been me. Ok - that's the guy that got in line after me and moved over there").

Here's the kicker, though, and why I came to post. The cashier asks the guy "how many bags of lime do you need?".

The guy says "I dunno. Five? Six? Whatever."

I'm like "DUDE - YOU HAVE TO TELL HIM HOW MANY! There's no way the CASHIER is going to know how many bags YOU need!"

Geez.

It's like when I get in line at McDonalds. Some how I manage to get in line behind someone (or a group of someone's) who have never been to a McDonalds before!

How many questions can you possibly ask about the McDonalds menu offerings?

Just so I can step up and say "Number 1. Medium. For here".

Geez.

I actually tell people - "oh. You don't want to be in line behind me. You want the other line".

Happens at the race track, too. Somehow I always get in line behind the guy that is writing a book and wants to interview the ticket taker in a lengthy exchange of back and forth, while I sit and watch the other line of race rigs fly through the gate.
