3 head 3 motor, dual capstan, solenoid operated transport, still works.
spent $500 on that back in late 70's, i believe. I bought the Heathkit because it had an honest 600W RMS per channel, the kit, with walnut case was $300 in the mid '70's. It has a power supply issue, the front panel is a little dim. probably electrolytic caps need R&R. I need to get to that. George

Anyway, back to tubes. This is a set of Ampex R2R. Bottom a pro mono 351; top a stereo consumer F44. For those of you out there that like 50's stuff, it was most likely recorded on the 351 deck. That innocent looking F44 was Gordon Holt's deck back in the day. The Stan Kenton tape shown sounds outrageous on the 351 as it is a 2-track linear.

Check this out, the C19 is a bit of a beast. Essentially a dual mono amp, 2 transformers & power supplies. HK is it's heyday. It's not difficult to take the covers off and look at those big & smaller caps, if they are leaking or bloated should be easy enough to see.

Back to those... my uncle has a 60's flavor Grundig Majestic console; high gloss finish, all tubes. The front tilts forward to expose the controls. Still works, although the speakers are shot.

I remember my dad fixing the tube TV. Going with him to the grocery store (I think it was) where they had a tube test stand. Then you buy the ones you need. Back in business! Now I can return to being the human remote control! LOL! Also the antenna adjustment technician!
