Hey there, new to the site so apologies if this repeating. I’m working with a fabricator to develop an adapter plate for a modern transmission (think 6L-10L) for my 1968 firebird. I wa going to do an LS swap in the thing as I won it in an auction. I get it home and it’s numbers matching. Nostalgia in me wants to keep the Pontiac engine but I still want to modernize. Oh, and the current trans is a powerglide. I’ve worked out the controller problem through upgrading to EFI, now it’s getting the adapter fabricated. To wit, I can send a bunch of parts to the CNC folks, or I can send drawings. Does anyone have CAD drawings of the Pontiac/BOP back of engine? Ideally I can nab the full suite of transmissions too.
I know I could just buy a TCI 6X , drop in a 4Lxx, or go a TH350 and gear vendors but I still wanna have some fun shoehorning a modern transmission on a vintage, albeit updated, engine. Thanks! |

Although they don't specifically list the Pontiac V8, I'd be surprised if they didn't have the hole pattern. Worth a try. https://www.kennedyeng.com/8-cylinder-engine-list

The transmissions you refer to have a chevy bell pattern which is the same as a 4L80E. The adapters are rather cheap to go from a BOP engine bell pattern engine, to a chevy bell pattern transmission. No need to re-invent the wheel.
Link to Jegs: https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/60172/10002/-1 Many people don't know that the 2 lowest bolts, and the pilot dowel locations on chevy and BOP patterns are in exactly the same position. The upper bolts are the only ones that don't match up. The adapter I linked to matches the upper holes up, the 2 lower holes already match up and just require a bolt to pass through the adapter plate and screw into the block. BTW, the original 2 speed transmission in your car isn't a powerglide, it's a turbine 300, many times mistakenly called a powerglide. The two transmissions share little, to no common parts.
