Along the same line as Tom has suggested here searching for a used good-running 400 in your local area would likely be the same cost roughly as the hopping up the 350.

You mentioned your mechanic suggested the mufflers so I’m guessing he’s doing the major work so the engine swap might be out of your purview as far as room or equipment is concerned. But again still worthy of consideration, cubic inches are your friend when it comes to street performance.
