Pontiac Quadrajet parts (fuel bowls, air horns ect) used the same castings for their model year - some castings changed based on the date when the part was manufactured,.
All original 1967 & early 1968 Quadrajets had the disc pad with the application number stamped on a color coded aluminum disc. All Rochester Quadrajets manufactured after moving away from the identifying disc were stamped regardless of application. I have understood that original fuel bowls differed by application in how they were finished (eg: bleed tubes and hot air bypass); Also the application (assembled carburetor) was a combination of all the parts which made up the assembly. EG: 7040263 & 7040264 used the same fuel bowl, but they were finished and assembled differently. Some replacement fuel bowls were sold with not number, because they fit several applications - others were sold (AFAIK) stamped for their intended application. I believe that as time went on, replacement parts were not always exactly the same as the original equipment (OE) parts. I believe that the people who know how to identify the correct parts, but don't give full public disclosure do so in an attempt to prevent re-stamping shenanigans - and I agree with this. Be aware; There are unstamped fuel bowls for 68+ Buicks and Oldsmobiles which show up on ePay; There are sellers (knowingly, or unknowingly) who are incorrectly listing them as being applicable to Pontiacs, and the list price assumes these are Pontiac RA castings - but they are NOT Pontiac castings. Years ago, my cousin had an authentic unstamped NOS 1968(?) Pontiac Quadrajet fuel bowl.

Wish he'd sell me just the tag and keep the carb! Also, there are many mixed and matched 'Frankencarbs' as Kenth has labeled them. |

I have never seen a 1967 Carter mfd A.I.R. (or Ram Air) Quadrajet. Also, A.I.R. carbs uses a square hole on the tag were all others uses a round hole. |

But how do you tell an A.I.R. Rochester airhorn from the garden variety airhorn? I'm looking at an airhorn from a Rochester 7027263 and it looks like the one on Ebay. Mine has a 7 casting number (can't see the casting number on the Ebay carb) and my secondary flap 'stops' are still intact. Mine also does not have that triangular vent tube cover which might be hiding the adjusting screw? Is that how you tell? P.S. Thanks for the square hole id disk info on A.I.R. fuel bowls. I have never shopped for a California model Qjet before...but if I ever do, I'll be armed with good knowledge to keep from being taken. |

After a closer look with glasses and a magnifying glass on the air horn of this Carter made 7027262 I see parts of the number 7033604 as on Carter Quadrajets is cast on the outside at the right screw hole. However, the secondary air valves are stamped RP so they have been replaced.

The Carter base plate and Carter float bowl might have been together from the factory. The top and id tag must have been added somewhere over the years. Oddly enough, the float bowl and id tag are both dated H6. This is what threw me about the id tag being from Rochester. I wish Rochester also had the casting dates on the main bowl like Carter.
Although numbers correct for interchangeability of the parts, they did not mix/match between Carter and Rochester. |

Over the years, I have had many unstamped 69 Pontiac quadrajets. One was a factory-installed original that was on a 370 HP std. bore 428 I pulled from a 1969 GP SJ.
