Knowing that pads/rotors are a wear item it seems kind of crazy for that much bolt size and torque when you have to replace them.

FWIW on the Wilwoods, the only time you need to take anything apart is if you're replacing a rotor. The design of the calipers allows brake pads to be swapped without removing the calipers.

If one were enterprising enough, i bet you could swap rotors with the calipers still in place as well.
