Well like Paul said there ya have it, your root cause.
Actually I am surprised you even got to drive / run the motor for 2 miles before the failure! Look at the bright side. Had this happen at high rpm a lifter would have got kicked out and you would have lost oil pressure and then had even bigger problems.
